For large R/3 Systems with correspondingly large throughput it is necessary to distribute the central instance and the database on separate hosts – this is mere resource consideration. Of course, your design depends on how much you can spend to run your landscape. Running a Central Instance without additional mere application servers is usually the beginner state, while you might consider to add more application servers when one node is no longer sufficient (most often because of performance reasons, sometimes also as to provide a environment that suits to your requirementes – for example, as to have multiple nodes dedicated either for mere OLAP usage by having only dialog processes defined or even mere BATCH usage. And in the end or even beginning, you might think about a standalone DB, as to protect the most precios resource in your landscape, which is the server that hosts the DB. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_40b/helpdata/en/e5/06a411802111d1889a0000e83539c3/frameset.htm Hope this helps, Uwe 0 Reply Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Leave an answerCancel replyYou must login or register to add a new answer.
